Understanding the technology
SoftWave is not
traditional shockwave
You may have heard of shockwave therapy. SoftWave is a distinct evolution — and a meaningful one for pelvic and soft tissue rehabilitation. Both use acoustic waves, but the way they deliver energy is fundamentally different.
Traditional focused shockwave concentrates high energy at a single point, creating controlled microtrauma to stimulate healing. It works — but it can be uncomfortable, and its reach is limited. SoftWave, by contrast, uses a patented parabolic reflector to generate a broad-focused true shockwave that travels deeper and wider across tissue, without causing microtrauma.
"Think of traditional shockwave like a laser pointer — precise and intense. SoftWave is like a floodlight — broader, gentler, and capable of activating the body's healing response across an entire injured zone in a single pass."
Traditional Shockwave
Focused, high-energy waves
Concentrated energy at a single target point. Effective but limited in coverage area.
Can cause microtrauma
Healing is triggered by controlled tissue damage — may require anesthesia.
Multiple sessions, single zone
Smaller treatment area often requires returning to the same spot repeatedly.
May cause discomfort
Higher intensity can be difficult for sensitive areas like the pelvis.
SoftWave Therapy
Broad-focused true shockwaves
Covers thousands of times more tissue area per pass — ideal for pelvic and soft tissue.
Zero microtrauma
Stimulates healing at the cellular level without damaging surrounding tissue.
Faster, fewer treatments
Broad coverage means the whole affected region can be treated in one short session.
Minimal to no discomfort
Well-tolerated — especially important for pelvic floor and postpartum care.
What we treat
SoftWave at La Hoya Health
Integrated into Katie's approach, SoftWave enhances outcomes across four key areas of specialization — each uniquely well-suited to this technology.
-
Pelvic Floor Conditions
The pelvic floor is a complex network of muscles, fascia, and nerves — and one of the hardest areas to treat with traditional modalities. SoftWave's broad, deep reach makes it exceptionally well-suited here.
Chronic pelvic pain
Vaginismus & vulvodynia
Interstitial cystitis
Pelvic floor hypertonia
Painful intercourse (dyspareunia)
Urinary urgency & leakage
-
Scar Tissue Rehabilitation
Acoustic waves have a well-documented ability to remodel dense adhesions and fascial restrictions — a major advantage for surgical and trauma-related scarring.
C-section scar adhesions
Episiotomy & perineal tears
Hysterectomy & pelvic surgery scars
Laparoscopic port site adhesions
Abdominal fascial restrictions
Endometriosis-related adhesions
-
Postpartum Recovery
Childbirth — vaginal or cesarean — creates significant tissue stress. SoftWave accelerates the body's natural healing cascade, supporting faster, more complete recovery.
Tissue repair after vaginal delivery
C-section incision recovery
Diastasis recti & linea alba healing
Pelvic floor muscle rehabilitation
Return-to-sport preparation
Postpartum pelvic pain
-
General Musculoskeletal Pain
SoftWave's regenerative effects extend well beyond the pelvis. For patients presenting with co-occurring orthopedic conditions, it integrates seamlessly into a comprehensive treatment plan.
Hip & low back pain
Sacroiliac joint dysfunction
Piriformis syndrome
Tendinopathies & fascial pain
Plantar fasciitis
Chronic musculoskeletal inflammation
The process
What to expect in a session
Sessions are brief, comfortable, and designed to fit seamlessly into your existing care plan. Most patients notice changes within 1–3 sessions, with full treatment protocols typically spanning 3–5 visits spaced one to two weeks apart.
01
Clinical Assessment
Katie identifies the precise areas of dysfunction, guiding where SoftWave energy will be directed for optimal effect.
02
Gel Application
A conductive gel is applied to the treatment area — similar to an ultrasound — ensuring smooth, effective wave delivery.
03
Treatment (10–15 min)
The applicator is moved across the zone while you provide real-time feedback. Energy levels are adjusted to your comfort throughout.
04
Integration & Recovery
No downtime. Resume normal activity immediately. Avoid ice, NSAIDs, and heavy loading for 24–48 hours to support the healing response.
The research
What the science shows
SoftWave Technology (TRT) is FDA-cleared and backed by extensive peer-reviewed research. Its mechanisms are among the most studied in regenerative physical medicine — and the outcomes are clinically meaningful.
Studies have demonstrated superior outcomes over corticosteroid injections for conditions including plantar fasciitis and tendinopathies, with effects lasting well beyond the treatment window. Combined with pelvic rehabilitation, evidence supports improved long-term functional outcomes compared to rehabilitation alone.

Mechanisms of action
How healing happens
-
SoftWave signals the body to activate resident stem cells, increasing proliferation and differentiation to support tissue regeneration in muscle, nerve, cartilage, and fascia.
-
Acoustic waves stimulate the formation of new blood vessels, improving circulation to ischemic or chronically inflamed tissue — critical for pelvic floor healing.
-
SoftWave reduces chronic inflammation at the cellular level and lowers cell apoptosis (cell death), creating a biological environment primed for recovery.
-
The shockwave energy disrupts dense scar tissue and fascial adhesions, restoring glide and flexibility — particularly effective following surgical or obstetric scarring.
A note from your practitioner
Integrated care. Real results.
"I brought SoftWave into La Hoya Health because I believe healing should work with your body — not force it. For my patients dealing with pelvic pain, scar tissue, postpartum recovery, and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, this technology addresses layers of dysfunction that hands alone cannot always reach. It's science meeting sanctuary — exactly what this practice is built on."
